HIV/AIDS vaccine developed at Western proceeding to human clinical trials Video

London, Ontario CANADA --The first and only preventative HIV vaccine based on a genetically modified killed whole virus has received approval by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to start human clinical trials.

Developed by Dr. Chil-Yong Kang and his team at The University of Western Ontario, with the support of Sumagen Canada, the vaccine (SAV001) holds tremendous promise, having already proven to stimulate strong immune responses in preliminary toxicology tests with no adverse effects or safety risks. It is the only HIV vaccine currently under development in Canada, and one of only a few in the world.

I've worked on a similar approach in San Francisco. They are probably also focusing on the? founder virus which carries a phenotype that enables HIV to infect healthy individuals. I'm so happy to see this concept flourishing and excited to see the results!! So thankful.

But? besides crossing your fingers and hoping they'll have heaps of unprotective sex with infected people any number of things can be the cause of that groups non-infection. a trial like this is easier with a cure than a vaccin. Or do they actively seek out high risk groups for this? that would make sense. I'm sorry I'm rambling

It's true that antibodies in sick people don't seem to help them, but by introducing a dead virus in the body they hope to create a larger amount of them through a safe way and hopefully create an immune response large enough to stop the virus. Isn't that it?
